Receding gums are a frequent dental problem many people face in their lifetime. They can act as a sign of other oral diseases or be a stand alone issue. However, it can be extremely difficult to notice receding gums because it is a slow process that grows over time. If you need to treat receding gums or want to stop them before they start, here are some helpful tips for better oral health!
-
Take care of your teeth.
This may seem obvious but some people need to hear it. You should be brushing and flossing your teeth daily and seeing a dentist about twice a year if possible. Use mouthwash and quit smoking to further increase your chances of healthy gums.
-
Eat healthy.
A nutritious diet filled with fruits and vegetables means your body will naturally be able to fight off disease better and keep your mouth free of unusual chemicals and preservatives. In turn, try to avoid large amounts of sugar, processed foods, alcohol, white flour, and caffeine as much as possible.
-
Water, water, water. Drink lots of it.
The pure vitamins and minerals will cleanse the bad and restore the good, all helping your gums stay healthy. Use at least one cup to make green tea which will fight off existing diseases in your gums.
-
Try oil pulling.
This is an old Indian remedy that has been used for centuries. Pick between a variety of available oils (suggestions include sesame, coconut, lemon, or tea tree) and, treating it like mouthwash, swish a tablespoon of your chosen oil in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. This will kill dangerous bacteria found around your gums.
